ARBROATH Musketeers are still awaiting their first league win of the season after going down to Troon at the weekend. The team was hit by four withdrawals due to injury and personal matters and coaches John Grant and Ross Marnie made the long journey to the west coast with only seven players available – a very tough assignment indeed! e in the opening period as Troon completely overwhelmed their opponents with a blistering 23-6 rout which undoubtedly made it a very difficult situation for the Muskies t

The "Super Bowl" of the livestock auctioneering profession, the 2010 World Livestock Auctioneer Championship ( WLAC ), will be the next stop for eight auctioneers competing here October 9. The Crawford Livestock Market is hosting 21 contestants in the second quarterfinal qualifying contest for the 2010 WLAC , to be held next June in Oklahoma City. Following the competition here, and at the other three qualifying contests, three winners – champion, reserve and runner-up champions – will be named.

It was a short meeting Tuesday night, but the Board of Selectmen still managed to cause a bit of grumbling from the audience. Selectmen unanimously granted a few requests made by Director of Planning and Community Development Jack Hunter on behalf of the Industrial Development Commission, the Redevelopment Authority and the Planning Board. Hunter requested selectmen ask MassHighway to perform a study how much of property along Spring Street may be deemed state surplus and therefore possibly available

Jaime Smith, also known as Jaime Valentine and as Jaime Vannote, 30, of Salem, was arrested on Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m. and charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly panhandling, police said. Smith was also arrested Aug. 25 at 12:32 p.m. and charged with improper conduct, and again on Aug. 28 at 9:20 a.m. on an outstanding warrant out of Westville, police said. She was lodged in the Salem County Correctional Facility in lieu of $485 bail.

Back in May 2008, Town Meeting voters approved $32,000 in funding from the Community Preservation fiscal 2009 estimated annual fund revenues to hire an engineer/architect specializing in the preservation of historic structures to perform a feasibility study of the town-owned Grange Hall located in the Lakenham Green Historic District in North Carver. Chenot Associates, Inc., Architecture and Land Planning of Princeton was hired to perform the study from an engineering and historical preservation perspect

I expected to hear that the building was not worth saving.   -Jack Hunter
